Introduction DUSU Elections Result 2023

In the 2023 Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), supported by the BJP, emerged victorious in three key positions, namely the president, secretary, and joint secretary. On the other hand, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) secured the vice president’s position in the same election.

In the DUSU elections held on September 22, Tushar Dedha, representing ABVP, secured the position of president. Abhi Dahiya, running with NSUI, emerged victorious as the vice president. Aprajita, a candidate from ABVP, clinched the secretary’s post, and Sachin Basla was elected as the Joint Secretary.

The DUSU elections marked a significant event as they were conducted after a three-year hiatus. The previous DUSU elections took place in 2019, with the ones in 2020 and 2021 being postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Further disruptions to the academic calendar prevented the elections from taking place in 2022.

As the election results were declared, students, spanning from the metro station to the campus, released balloons into the sky, spontaneously danced with joy, and celebrated the victors by showering them with fragrant flower petals.

DUSU Elections Result 2023: Abhi won the VP post with 22,331 votes

Abhi Dahiya, representing the Congress Student Wing, secured the role of Vice President by clinching the election with 22,331 votes, surpassing Sushant Dhankar of the ABVP with a lead of 1,829 votes.

Hitesh Gulia, representing NSUI, faced defeat to Tushar Dedha from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in the race for the DUSU President’s position, with a margin of 3,115 votes. Gulia garnered 20,345 votes, while Dedha secured 23,460 votes.

DUSU election 2023: Five candidates filled nomination for VP post

Five candidates submitted their nominations for the Vice President’s position, as confirmed by the chief election officer. These candidates were Abhi Dahiya from the Department of Buddhist Studies, Ankit from the Campus Law Centre, Anushka Chaudhary from the Law Centre, Sushant Dhankar from the Department of Buddhist Studies, and Yash Khatri from Shivaji College.

Tushar Dedha secured a total of 23,460 votes, whereas Abhi Dahiya garnered 22,331 votes. Aprajita received 24,534 votes, and Sachin Baisla received 24,955 votes.

During the 2019 elections, Akshit Dahiya, supported by ABVP, secured the position of President, while Pradeep Tanwar was elected as Vice-President, and Shinvangi Kharwal assumed the role of Joint Secretary within the students’ union.

Eight candidates submitted their nominations for the President’s position, and they included Aiyesha Ahmad Khan from Miranda House, Arif Siddiqui from the Department of Buddhist Studies, Himanshu Thakur from Hansraj College, Hitesh Gulia (also known as Hitesh) from Law Centre, Shimpi from Lakshmi Bai College, Shraddha Gupta from the Department of Library and Information Science, Soumya Kumar Satyam from A-U Tibbia College, and Tushar Dedha from the Department of Buddhist Studies.

The vote shares in the DUSU elections were as follows:

  • 2023: 42%
  • 2019: 39.90%
  • 2018: 44.46%
  • 2027: 42.8%
